Company History
Rousseau Metal was founded in 1950 and, at the time, most of the work
was by contract and custom fabrication in metal stamping. The operations
began with 3 employees, and a factory of 15,000 square feet, situated on the
south shore of the St-Lawrence River in St-Jean-Port-Joli, Québec.
In its early days, Rousseau was known for products made to order, meaning,
manufactured to meet the requirements of its customers who were, at that time,
principally those in government and private business. Rousseau manufactured a
variety of products such as mail sorting, classifying, distribution
equipment for Canada Post; mailboxes, electric meter boxes, laboratory boxes
and other multi-purpose cabinets; repair workstations, bridge tables and
chairs, sheds, and even snowmobiles.
In the 1970's, Rousseau seized business opportunities brought about by the
changing economy and moved towards creating their own line of products in the
industrial sector. The company established a sales force, which was
dedicated to finding new and potential customers.
Rousseau products were initially sold in Canada, through a network of
distributors. Backed by a quarter century of expertise in custom order
production, Rousseau began to design, manufacture and market various storage
products such as cabinets, modular drawers and workstations. Since 1989, with
the support of their manufacturers representatives who assist their
distributors, Rousseau has been covering private and governmental
sectors all throughout the United States.
The name Rousseau is now well known for quality products and for always putting
their customers first. Rousseau offers their customers products that are
adaptable and competitive, a highly qualified staff, cutting-edge
technology and reliable yet flexible manufacturing procedures. The company
is now operating in a modern installation of 150,000 square feet and dedicated
to environmental responsibility.
